What’s a Ceilidh? How do I Barn Dance? What do I Wear?

What’s a Ceilidh?

What’s a ceilidh, you ask? The word ceilidh comes from the Gaelic word for ‘party’. If you’ve been to one, you’ll know why! A ceilidh (pronounced cay-lee) is an inclusive event that everyone can enjoy, regardless of age or dancing ability. It is a time-honoured occasion that Bowreed are proud to continue, and its popularity is well earned.

Before the music starts, our professional caller will walk

you through the steps so nobody gets lost. Once we start What's a ceilidh?playing, it’s down to you to keep up! Don’t worry about getting left behind – our caller will be keeping an eye on the dance, offering handy tips throughout. We only use the best callers in the UK, so you can be sure no-one will be left behind.

Where are we headed?

We do dances from all over the world, be they Irish, Scottish English or American. Our callers love to dive into dusty old books, dig out dances and make your evening a smash hit. Have a request for a dance? Send us a request before your event and we will make sure it’s included.
No-one wants to turn up in a kilt and do line dancing all night. If your event has a specific theme or nationality to adhere to, let us know and we will make sure we do the appropriate ceilidh (or line!) dances.

In Conclusion

A Ceilidh is a great way to socialise. Whether you’re having a wedding, birthday or corporate event, we can guarantee that you’ll walk away smiling. Humans have been dancing socially for millennia; Bowreed are just carrying on the tradition! Check out some of our media section to see and hear us in action.

If you’re still on the fence, send us an email on info@bowreed.co.uk, or give us a ring on 07480 272 072. We’d be delighted to talk you through the magic of ceilidhs and barn dancing.
